Shelley Lowell is a highly accomplished art director, graphic designer and illustrator. Her work has won awards for excellence in design and art direction in the following categories: print ads, books, sales literature, menus, newsletters, packaging and typography. She won the the prestigious Merit Award from the NY Society of Illustrators. Her creativity and experience is diverse and highly creative. She is a conceptual thinker and turns ideas into reality. She graduated Pratt Institute with a BFA. She has an excellent working knowledge of InDesign, QuarkXpress, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and other programs. Aside from her recent work in the newspaper industry, she was a senior graphic designer for the headquarters of the American Red Cross and design studios and an art director for ad agencies. She owned a design studio/ad agency for over two decades. She has been a contributing designer/artist to Lark Books, creating many how-to craft projects for their publications. She has designed furniture, lamps, mailboxes, clocks, bird houses and designs on glass and wood for these projects. She taught hand painted furniture for over ten years in continuing education classes in community colleges and art centers in NC, MD and CT. She has mentored young designers in her various roles as a creative director, art director and graphic designer. She has art directed photo sessions and illustration projects for various projects. She keeps her calm under pressure and always makes the deadline with high caliber work. She is also known for portrait paintings of people (candid poses rather than formal) and animals – dogs, cats, birds and horses – on a commissioned basis for discerning clients. Her personal art has been in gallery and museum exhibitions, including The Bronx Museum of The Arts and the High Museum of Art, Atlanta. It is in the Elizabeth A.
