Ramon-Gabriel Tapales has been practicing graphic design since 1999. A graduate of Pratt Institute, Ramon began his career in print media, designing ads, marketing collateral and identity systems. Gradually, his focus migrated towards web where he has developed a strong grasp of modern web standards and accessibility practice. He integrates this approach with clean, thoughtful design informed by client objectives and brand strategy.

WONGDOODY / Advertising Agency, LA / mar 2006-present / senior art director
Art direction and design. Develop concepts and strategy for online campaigns and user interface for websites, microsites and standalone applications; direct and mentor junior designers; collaborate with information architects, front-end developers and engineers; research new media trends and emerging technologies; provide guidance on accessibility & standards compliance, present creative to clients that include Autodesk, Alaska Airlines, Alpine, Evite, Irvine Company, T-Mobile, Motorola and SAP.

JHPA / Architecture Firm, NYC / 2003 + 2005 / freelance
Full-scale web redesign for New York architecture firm. Goals were to align the look and feel of the website with branding scheme developed a year earlier. Process involved site audit and usability study, detailed site mapping and wire-framing, thorough design investigation, backend integration and creation of online style & maintenance guide.

JASPER DESIGN / Web Design Studio, NYC / feb 2004–june 2005 / senior designer
Art direction and design for mostly non-profit and educational clientele. Responsibilities include design of user interface, frontend development, information design, formulate written proposals, supervision of junior and freelance designers and client correspondence.

LEIBOWITZ COMMUNICATIONS / Design Studio, NYC / 2003 / freelance
Design for pharmaceutical, entertainment and educational clientele. Projects include creating ads for New York Times, logo design and design of brochure site.

Art direction and design. Devised print and online solutions for financial services clientele. Projects consist of print collateral, website redesigns as well as design of online wealth management tools. Information design and technical illustrations for American Signs, a book investigating vintage signs along historic Route 66.

Developed packaging for a luxury skin care line. Also created Flash-based website featuring company profile and product information.

ALADDIN / Insulated Bottle Manufacturer, Mufreesboro TN / 2001 / freelance
Developed packaging and illustration for a line of insulated bottles licensed under Eddie Bauer and Target.

ANDANTE / Classical Music Recording Label and Website, NYC / 2001 / freelance
Developed print ad campaign featured in the United States, Canada and Europe. Publications include BAMazine, BBC music, La Scena Musicale, Granta, Opera News and Fanfare. Also designed logo for Andante Radio and CD release brochure.

Worked with lead designer and marketing director to develop cohesive brand strategy. Includes refinement of parent identity – logo, stationery, quarterly newsletter, direct mail and print advertising (featured in New York Observer and Gourmet). Also designed menus for Coco Pazzo restaurants as well as comprehensive identity for Centolire.
