I'm a detail-oriented editor and designer who thrives on deadline. With 15 years of experience in written and visual communication, I'm at ease working independently as well as in a collaborative setting. I can move comfortably between words and visuals and combine these skills to create the best possible message for employers and clients. EXPERIENCE
GRAPHIC DESIGNER
The Vital VOICE/St. Louis Community Pride Pages, February 2006-present
- Design each issue of the Vital VOICE, a biweekly alternative newspaper covering St. Louis and Southern Illinois. Also design the St. Louis Community Pride Pages, an annual business directory, and oversee printing of each publication.
- Provide design services to clients needing display ads created for the Vital VOICE and Pride Pages.
- Update the newspaper's Web site with new content from each issue.
Accomplishments:
- Redesigned the Web site for the Pride Pages making it possible for users to browse businesses by category and search by name.

EDITOR/DESKTOP PUBLISHER
Webster University, March 1998-February 2006
- Edited and proofread publications for the Marketing Department aimed at current and prospective students, including course catalogs, brochures and schedules.
- Designed and typeset documents and prepared electronic files for output.
- Designed pages for the university's Web site and provided guidance and coordination to the Associate Vice President of Marketing in implementation of the university's new online admission portal and application (admissions.webster.edu/admissions/graduate/) .
Accomplishments:
- With assistance from the university's computer User Services department, I created a program to train the admissions staff in the use of the new online admission portal and application. This included developing a PowerPoint presentation and printed manual. I presented the training program to staff at the main campus and traveled to satellite campuses nationwide to familiarize users with the features of the new system.
- Created new designs for trade show displays used by campus admissions staff to attract prospective students at local and regional education fairs.
- Designed and helped implement online versions of graduate and undergraduate course catalogs, helping reduce the expense of mailing these documents to prospective students, particularly in international locations.

St. Louis Business Journal, September 1994-March 1998
- Edited stories, wrote headlines and photo captions, and performed page layout.
- Maintained Macintosh network, including user access, file maintenance and new user training.
- Recommended purchase of computer hardware and software.
- Installed hardware and software, performed maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Scanned and corrected black and white photos.
Accomplishments:
- Oversaw the installation of a new Macintosh computer network for the editorial department.
- Selected and recommended a new computer system for bringing color scanning capabilities in-house at a projected cost savings of approximately $20,000 annually.
