Senior Graphic Designer

Salary Range: $42,800.00 - $60,000.00 / Year

Under general supervision, the senior graphic designer provides concept, design, and production of custom printed collateral and web-based communication pieces for all seven Advancement units using Adobe Creative and other desktop publishing software. Examples of pieces to be produced range from but are not limited to brochures, invitations, proposals, programs, flyers, newsletters, posters, presentation materials, and information graphics.

The senior graphic designer cultivates and maintains productive working relationships within a diverse, higher education environment. Must possess strong design and typography skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a creative team, as well as the ability to prioritize projects in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. The graphic designer is responsible for project management, including coordination of production schedules, final art production, development of quality control standards, and other responsibilities as needed. Must follow established university brand style guides/guidelines, and be able to create and repurpose documents and collateral to those guidelines, as well. Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices, marketing, and organizational policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment and an interest in understanding client objectives in order to develop effective marketing and/or communications deliverables in support of Advancement and the Campaign for UC San Diego.

• Strong skills to effectively produce visual materials that meet and satisfy the needs of the client. Demonstrated understanding of basic design concepts.
• Thorough knowledge of applicable publishing software applications. Advanced technical skill and knowledge to utilize Macintosh hardware and related publishing software—InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, among others—to produce publications.
• Bachelor’s degree in design or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
