From knee-high to the present my creative handy work has appeared on restaurant placemats, the backs of my parents' car seats, my older brother’s clothing, my neighbor's wet stucco, school desktops, binders, Pee-Chee folders, scantrons, shoes, backpacks, skateboard grip tape, classroom display cases, student art shows, high school yearbooks, college newspapers, parking tickets, alternative weeklies, trendy guidebooks, fancy magazines, concert posters, collectors' walls, gallery walls, billboards, and esteemed illustration annuals.
SENIOR ART DIRECTOR Playboy Magazine (currently) Working directly with editors, writers, photographers and illustrators I am directly responsible for the visual concepts and design of various features and departments within each issue of the magazine. HEAD OF DESIGN Dial House 2010-2012 Dial House is a San Francisco based brand strategy firm with an international client list. As Head of Design I worked directly with our principal and strategy lead to translate our strategy concepts to an effective and engaging visual presentation. I was directly responsible for the design, production and output of all deliverables, including books, product and packaging prototypes, animation, photography, short films, illustration, interactive, and creative campaigns. I also hired and mentored our design staff. ART DIRECTOR SF Weekly 2008-2010 The SF Weekly is an award winning Village Voice publication. As art director I was directly responsible for conceptualizing and designing front cover and feature pages for each issue, as well as all special issue content and marketing materials. This included working closely with editors and writers to conceptualize the editorial design, commissioning original illustration and photography, working closely with contributing photographers and illustrators, as well as working closely with the publisher and marketing director to conceptualize and produce promotional materials for the publication. ART DIRECTOR East Bay Express 2006-2008 The East Bay Express was also an award winning Village Voice publication at the time. My responsibilities there were not dissimilar to those at the SF Weekly. Toward the end of my time as art director, I also completed a complete redesign of the publication. Aside from my role as art director I was also a regularly contributing illustrator. GRAPHIC DESIGNER Bill Graham Presents 2004-05 Bill Graham Presents is / was a legendary concert promotions company. Working as a designer in their art department I was tasked with the design of print advertisements, commemorative concert posters, handbills, and various other concert related materials. ILLUSTRATOR Every so often As an illustrator I have worked on editorial, advertising and packaging. CRAFTSMAN As often as possible I love to build things.
