I am an award-winning Art Director / Sr Graphic Designer. My experience is in editorial and marketing design. I can take complete project ownership from concept, presentation, 
production (digital editing/retouching), design, copy writing, hiring of vendors (commercial 
printers, photographers, and illustrators) to signing off at press checks. 

My designs include: educational books, brochures, catalogues, corporate communications, direct mail flyers and postcards, event marketing collateral, logos, magazine editorial features and ads, packaging, retail signage, social media ads and web banners. My target audiences have ranged from seven year old video game players to Medicare members. I have marketed and designed for numerous industries including: B2B, educational, gaming, gear & apparel retail, non-profit healthcare, hi-tech, higher education, luxury home market, and travel.

Rubicon Publishing, Inc
Oakville, ON: August 2016-Nov 2017
• Rubicon Publishing is an award-winning educational publisher. From initial layout to file prepress, I designed 55 Kindergarten to Grade 5 illustrated books (8 to 36 page count). This was Pearson USA contract for distribution in Texas schools. I sourced and commissioned illustrators (worldwide) and provided detailed art direction for every illustration throughout the book—that both enhanced the child's comprehension of the story as well as complied with strict educational guidelines.

Great West Realty, Auctions, & Estates
Sarnia, ON: Dec 2015–July 2016
• Provided marketing & design services to Great West Realty & Auctions. Website editing (in WordPress); helped stage and took photos of listed homes; posted new home listings on the MLS site; brand-building thru new marketing materials (brochures, direct mail postcards, business cards, banners, signs, vehicle wraps); built a new social media presence through Facebook, website, and Kjiji ads for bi-weekly online auctions. Attended a Seniors Trade Show, as a sales representative, promoting their Senior Transitions packing and moving services.

Western University: Communications & Public Relations Department
London, ON: Feb. 2014—Feb. 2015 (year contract position)
• Projects included: Design of faculty curriculum booklets, cards and invitations, posters, direct mail brochures, annual report, various event signage/displays, social media ads/web banners — which supported the various Faculties, Alumni and Development teams, President’s Office, and Internal & External Public Relations. After my contract ended, I was referred to the Alumni Ceremonies Department to do a freelance project.

Community Health Plan of Washington
Seattle, WA: May 2009–Jan. 2010
A non-profit, providing Medicare and Medicaid health care plans, serving 250 health clinics and 80 hospitals. 

• Designed & copy wrote marketing pieces for: Disease Management, Legislative Policy, IT, HR, and Marketing. Designed: print ads, direct mail campaigns, display signs, postcards, corp. communication materials, and plan benefit handbooks/directories. Set up new Mac design dept. Extensive photo editing to create new photo library. Hired printers. Reported to VP Marketing.

DCD Home Magazine
Seattle, WA: Mar. 2008–Feb. 2009
DCD, Inc. was a publisher of over 24 annual magazines targeting the luxury home industry in multiple Western USA resort regions.

• Art Director/Manager of multiple high-end advertorial magazines. Hired/supervised designers & freelancers. Designed, edited, and wrote copy for client ads. Scheduled and tracked the design, production, art submissions, and copy for multiple magazines under various print deadlines. Redesigned: the magazine’s cover and interior templates; and all inhouse branding such as, forms, logo, and business cards.

Microsoft Game Studios 
Redmond, WA: May 2007–Sept. 2007; April 2002–Sept. 2002 
• Contracted for two seasons to design multiple User Manuals packaged with PC and XBox video games. Adhered to a complex 30-week production schedule for a hand-off of print deliverables for national and international printing. Attended weekly meetings with Print and UX teams. Interfaced with the Developers, Localization, Marketing, and Packaging departments.

REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.) 
Kent, WA: Feb. 2003–August 2006 
REI is a retail chain that sells high-end gear and apparel for multiple sport/recreational activities. It is the largest outdoor retailer/co-op in the U.S. with at least 125 retail stores in 34 states and over 11,000 employees.

• Worked with production, print buyers, merchandising, editing, and photo departments to produce all retail sale flyers and all marketing pieces for their travel deptarment called REI Adventures. Designed: retail signage, van wraps, postcards, direct mail pieces, POP pieces, logos, and REI’s annual travel catalogs (72 avg. pgs). Transitioned 20-year-old travel slide library into an enhanced digital one—through complex image retouching. Directed studio shoots. Photo edited. Approved vendor match-prints. 

Janet Church & Associates 
Seattle, WA: Sept. 2000–April 2001

JCA was a B2B event-marketing firm, specializing in CRM (Customer Relationship Marketing) programs in the high tech industry. They managed the logistics of high profile executive and trade conferences. 

• Set up new Mac design dept. Designed print/web materials for clients, such as Microsoft, Oracle, and Intel. Designed and edited new company marketing collateral. Determined costs & design billing time with Project Managers. Hired printers. Researched RFP opportunities. Reported to President and VP.

Nintendo of America
Redmond, WA: Sept. 1997–Sept. 2000

• Production and design of feature layouts for the monthly publication, Nintendo Power magazine. Designed—and improved the pre-press production processes of—top-selling Player’s Guidebooks (120 avg. pgs). Designed: industry trade show handouts, logos, merchandise catalogs, trade ads, and POP pieces. Received “Outstanding” performance reviews.

Horizon & Alaska Airlines Magazines

• Pre-press production & design of all editorial sections of the monthly in-flight airline magazine, Horizon Air Magazine. Maintained art budget. Contributed designs to Alaska Airlines Magazine. Approved color. Bought stock photos. Assigned photographers & Illustrators. Signed-off at press checks.

D.C. Heath Canada  
Educational Publisher, Toronto: 
June 1990–June 1993

• Designed: Grades 5 & 6 science textbooks for Manitoba, Teacher’s Manuals, annual product catalogs, newsletters, direct mail flyers, and print ads. Designed & copy wrote nationwide direct mail pieces for Lexington Books, a line of professional titles in the areas of behavioral science, business, and politics. Devised all marketing plans. Purchased mailing lists. Attended professional conferences (vendor booth) as sales rep displaying and selling trade books.
