Doug combines traditional watercolor technique with Photoshop to give his clients production ready images that still have the hand-done quality to them. He specializes in painting realistic, watercolor, food and botanical paintings for packaging and advertising. With over 30 years experience, his work has graced many companies' products including St. Ive's, Suave, Bacardi, Bath & Body Works, Clairol, Frito-Lay, Shaklee, Wal-Mart, Dial, Ghirardelli, Krusteaz, Sun-Maid, and Victoria's Secret.
After earning a Master of Fine Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1978, I left Michigan to pursue a career in fine art, spending most of my time in San Diego. In 1985 I discovered illustration and found that it was a better fit for a realistic artist, and I now specialize in painting food and nature illustrations for packaging and advertising. In spring of 2001, my wife, Victoria, and I moved back to a home on Green Lake in northern Michigan. I am fortunate to have many happy, recurring clients, and I have done more than 70 packaging illustrations for St. Ive's products and over 50 packaging illustrations for Suave Naturals and Seasonals products. Frito-Lay has used my illustrations on their packaging for Ruffle's Potato Chips, Rold Gold Pretzels, Tostitos Salsa, Grandma's Cookies, Chester’s Fries and Doritos Toppers. Some other clients include Alberto VO5, Anheuser-Busch, Best Foods, Castella Imports, Clorox, Continental Mills, Herbal Mist Natural Teas, In-The-Raw, Liberte Organic Yogurts, Mahatma/Carolina Rice, Miller-Coors, Nike, Skyr Icelandic Yogurts, T. Marzetti, and Williams-Sonoma.
