Freelance Print/Digital Designer
Vera Institute of Justice
At the Vera Institute of Justice, we strive to end mass incarceration, strengthen families and communities, and secure equal justice for all. We do this by providing expert research and technical assistance to state and local governments across the country who are committed to implementing criminal justice system reform.

We are looking for someone with strong design and critical thinking skills who will challenge the way we present our work, push us to think more creatively about our design strategy, and bring a new sense of aesthetics to our brand.

What you will do:

- Work with our in-house designer to develop publication designs—including research reports, fact sheets, and other communications—while adhering to our brand and template guidelines.
- Design infographics using our researchers’ data and transforming it into digestible visuals for different audiences.
- Collaborate with our design and editorial team to carry projects from start to finish while receiving feedback from diverse parties and working under tight deadlines.
- Brainstorm and research imagery for publications and our website that comply with our brand and respect the dignity of those we work for.

Who you are:

- You are a nerd about typography and know the difference between font and typeface.
- You can identify color mismatches and talk to a printer in order to solve these kinds of problems.
- You take criticism and feedback with open arms and see it as a possibility to grow and learn.
- You have a BFA in graphic design or related discipline.
- You have experience in data visualization and a facility for designing charts and tables.
- You are aware of the design trends of the moment and have design references that reflect in your work.
- You stay up-to-date with the industry and have a master knowledge of Adobe Suite(InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop).
- You have a portfolio website that shows who you are and what you care about in the world.
- You live, breathe, and feed on art and design.

Please apply by submitting a letter of intent, portfolio website and/or a PDF with work samples.
