Musical Instrument Repair Technician

What will you be doing as a Musical Instrument Repair Technician?

- Oversee the muli-million dollar musical instrument inventory for Purdue University Bands & Orchestras.
- Provide oversight for the department’s concert band, jazz band and marching band musical instrument inventory. This includes keeping accurate records of instrument checkout and return, overseeing of instrument storage and locker check-out/check-in and providing a detailed instrument inventory at the conclusion of every semester.
- Maintain and repair when needed all instruments owned by Purdue Bands & Orchestras.
- Provide organization and technical oversight and instruction for the student volunteer - - - Supply and Equipment Team.
- Serve as a staff resource for all students as it relates to general care and maintenance of musical instruments.
- Provide instrumental repair support at events including Purdue Band Day and the Purdue Jazz Festival.

- High School Diploma/GED.
- Three years of instrument repair experience
- Strong organizational skills. 
- Considerable knowledge of the newest methods, materials and equipment employed in band and orchestra instrument repair work.
- Working knowledge of the occupational hazards of band and orchestra instrument repair work and the associated safety precautions.
- Extensive skill in the use and care of a variety of hand and power tools necessary to perform a variety of band and orchestra instrument repair and reconstruction work.


- Technical certificate or degree in instrument repair.

Additional Information:

- Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position.
- Occasional overtime may be required.
- A Background Check will be required for employment in this position.
- FLSA:  Non-Exempt (Eligible for Overtime).
- Retirement Eligibility: Non-exempt Defined Contribution Plan.
