Faculty Director of MHCI+D Program/Senior Lecturer
University of Washington
The University of Washington seeks applications for the Faculty Director of the Master of Human-Computer Interaction + Design (MHCI+D) program, who will also have an academic appointment as a Senior Lecturer in the UW Information School. We welcome all candidates from any discipline or background related to human-computer interaction and design (see: http://mhcid.washington.edu/).

The MHCI+D program offers a unique, cross-disciplinary approach to educate a new diverse generation of designers, engineers, and user researchers who can successfully combine the creative aspects of design and the study of human behavior with the analytical techniques of engineering. Students come from a variety of backgrounds such as visual design, user research, software and technology. The program, currently in its seventh year, is a full-time, 11-month program with a 40-student cohort. MHCI+D is a joint effort of four academic units: Computer Science & Engineering, the Division of Design in the School of Art + Art History + Design, Human-Centered Design & Engineering, and The Information School.
The MHCI+D program is supported by the collaborative academic UW community known as DUB (design: use: build:), that explores a wide variety of topics in HCI and design. (see: http://dub.washington.edu/).

Responsibilities: The MHCI+D Faculty Director leads the MHCI+D program in its unique position of cross-disciplinarity at the University of Washington. With an academic appointment in the iSchool, which is one of the four sponsoring academic units, the Faculty Director is responsible for building and maintaining equal and effective relationships with the other three units as well, which in turn offer their support to the program.
What distinguishes the MHCI+D Faculty Director from mainstream academic appointments is the combination of program leadership and administration along with teaching. Rather than conducted personal or academic research, the opportunity is to freely lead a nationally recognized graduate program which emphasizes student experience and curricular relevance in the exciting field of HCI and design.

Qualifications: The position requires a minimum of a Masters (or foreign equivalent)— in a field related to human-computer interaction and design. A doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in such a field is also acceptable. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of work experience in this area and a record of leadership and administration. The ideal candidate will also have documented expertise in teaching and developing design-oriented/studio-based courses. The ideal candidate will thrive doing self-directed, independent work, while at the same time appreciate collaborating with a broad range of individuals who together support and guide the Faculty Director’s work.

Application Instructions: Preference to those applying on/before 1/31/20. Application packages should include: (1) Letter of intent; (2) Current CV; (3) Statement of te
