Data Strategist
South Carolina Arts Commission
The SC Arts Commission seeks a tech savvy, creative, personable individual. Under supervision of the Sr Deputy Director, the Data Strategist will communicate the impact of the agency’s work by interpreting data and illustrating the value of public funding for the arts. The Data Strategist will analyze agency data requirements, develop/manage databases across multiple platforms, and implement database policies and procedures to ensure data integrity and security; and will serve as the lead user/tech. expert for Salesforce.

-Compile/analyze data from agency databases and collaborates with staff to present data to communicate agency impact and support the agency’s work.
-Interpret/prepare data to create reports, data visualization, presentations, maps, and briefs to support the annual budget request, analyze grantmaking/ program reach, and track constituent interactions/requests.
-Interpret/prepare data for applications and reports, including strategic plan progress reports, annual accountability reports, legislative audits, board reports, and applications/reports for state, regional, and national funders/partners.
-Assist leadership to use data to evaluate agency work and conduct feasibility studies to improve or create programs.
-Collect/evaluate public input during the strategic planning process; compile public input data and prepare data for use in updating or creating the strategic plan.
-Conduct an arts economic impact study every 3-5 years.
-Develop an annual assessment report to document areas of the state lacking adequate infrastructure, investment, and grant awards.
-Develop/oversee data management systems, incl. Salesforce, Artwork Archive, Submittable, Foundant, and Constant Contact.
-Troubleshoot/resolve issues using established procedures + processes.
Technical Support and Communication
-Communicate/train/assist staff to understand and support agency data needs, ensure accurate data collection, and facilitate user adoption of these systems.
-Fulfill data requests for constituents, incl. legislators, state agencies, funders, and nonprofits.

-Knowledge of database structures, operating systems, data security, data access and privacy practices, and systems integrity. 
-Experience in research design, data collection, manipulation, analysis, and interpretation and presentation of information. 
-Ability to distill data-based language into a narrative or data visualization in a clear, concise manner for nontechnical readers. 
-Experience learning new technology, training others in technology & integrating/maintaining database software platforms.  
-Establish/maintain positive relationships and interact in a calm, solutions-oriented manner with agency leadership, staff, board, funders, governmental officials, & the public. 
-Proficiency with Salesforce, Microsoft Office, cloud-based database + project management, data mapping software (such as Tableau), operating systems, & video conferencing platforms.
