UC Berkeley UC Berkeley's University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) is seeking a Senior Editorial Director to provide high-level communications leadership for the university's fundraising priorities and comprehensive campaign. This role leads the strategy, development, and execution of editorial, digital, multimedia, executive, and media communications produced by the External Relations and Marketing Communications (ERMC) editorial team. 

The Senior Editorial Director leads and develops a 10-person multidisciplinary editorial and multimedia communications team, directly supervising one manager and six editors. The position sets strategic and editorial direction across editorial, digital, multimedia, social media, and video functions; ensures high-quality, strategically aligned work; and provides final editorial oversight for the team's communications. 

Serving as UDAR's primary advancement spokesperson, this leader directs proactive and reactive media relations, advises senior leadership on media strategy and public messaging, and develops long- and short-term communications strategies. The role provides counsel on complex, confidential, high-profile, and politically sensitive issues and leads executive and fundraising communications, including speeches, campaign collateral, major gift proposals, case statements, videos, reports, presentations, event communications, and digital content. 

The Senior Editorial Director builds strong partnerships with advancement and strategic communications leaders across UC Berkeley, represents ERMC in campus meetings and university-wide initiatives, and, when appropriate, serves as a proxy for the Assistant Vice Chancellor, ERMC. 

Qualifications 
• Extensive knowledge of strategic communications across editorial, print, digital, multimedia, executive, and media communications.
• Excellent leadership and people-management skills, including coaching and developing professional communications staff.
• Exceptional written, verbal, editorial, interpersonal, and strategic communications skills.• Ability to advise senior leadership and exercise sound judgment, discretion, and political acumen.
• Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Salary & Appointment 
• Salary: $183,000-$210,900 annually
• Full-time, career position with comprehensive UC benefits
• Eligible for up to 3 days/week remote work within the United States, based on role and department needs
