Since my last position, I have worked as a freelance Graphic Designer and a contracted Broker for a business that is liquidating beads, lapidary material, and mineral specimens. Always known to be a motivated individual, I have kept my skills sharp and am currently looking to return to the full-time workforce as an Art Director or Visual Designer.

Strategic Communications Specialist
Fort Hays State University: Full-time
Dates Employed: July 2019 – Jul 2020

FHSU is a top-ranked state Regents university located in western Kansas with a current enrollment of about 16K students. The school has 31 academic departments and offers degree seekers both online and on-campus classwork and is a long-time provider of international online education.

Under University Relations, I developed strategic media deliverables in multiple formats across various platforms (print, digital, social media, etc.).

• Develop executive presentation deliverables (e.g., talking points, university strategic plans/reports, and digital and print presentation materials). President's materials received accolades.

• Perform media research to identify strategic advantages, find unique sources of revenue, recruit new students, improve the university’s reputation, and position it for growth. Advantages found were in finding comparative data with our competitors, accessing new markets, and building FHSU’s reputation.

• Content writing for news, blog, and university magazine resulting in reputation building.

• Licensing management decisions substantially increased royalty revenues.

• Designed custom projects including advertising, exhibits, automobiles, and package design.

• Improved branding so logo art files were more efficient and worked for a broader range of vendors and products.

Project Manager

Managed the university’s in-house licensing program, advertising sales and tracking for the university magazine, billboard lease contracts, and designed and wrote for advertising and branded deliverables for adjunct university units.

Re-tooled the university’s licensing program to make it profitable by streamlining vendor data documentation/tracking, offering unique advertising and marketing opportunities, and strengthening existing partnerships. Implemented new vendor support services, including a licensing website, product sample library, and branded design services.

• Doubled the number of licensed campus vendors. Increased brand product availability by 60% in less than a year.

• Grew the billboard lease program 400%.

• Sold over $22,000 worth of ad space for the university’s new magazine, ROAR, before the first issue’s publication, and continued to oversell for future issues.

• Designed for unique projects including advertising, exhibits, automobiles, and package design.

Creative Director
Fort Hays State University: Full-time
Dates Employed: Aug 2001 – Feb 2016
Location: Hays, KS

Lead designer and senior creative management for the entire university. Advanced over time from graphic artist, graphic designer, art director to creative director. Conceptualized and consistently designed high-quality deliverables for purposes of recruiting, reputation and revenue. Managed job intake, creative staff, computer equipment, billboards, production schedules, and print contracts. Developed, wrote, and managed identity/graphics/brand standards. Researched competitors, identified production resources, wrote bid specifications and developed creative concepts.

• Created the current logo, and first original tiger, and developed the brand for Fort Hays State University. And, as part of a team, grew student enrollment from 5,000 to more than 15,000.

• Supervised and mentored more than 50 student designers. When student designs were too ambitious (not affordable or producible,) I helped revise concepts to successfully fit the parameters of a job.

• A self-starter who focuses on developing revenue, recruiting, and reputation. Design work and personal reputation earned more than 20 awards, including a CASE Grand Gold.
